Four Seasons portfolio
Part of her popular 1988 quartet, “The Four Seasons,” this original etching captures the magic of Vivaldi’s most renowned concertos, The Four Seasons. In the same way Vivaldi composed his concertos to evoke the feeling of each individual season, Boulanger has reinvented the same image in four ways that compose a beautiful series, with each piece rich enough to stand alone. The texture of each piece varies: “Winter” is washed in silvery-gray while “Summer” evokes a lushness in the forefront while a thick, stormy air seems to lurk in the background. Both high seasons are balanced out with the vibrancy of color in the transitional periods of “Spring” and “Autum,” while the constant presence of children, bending and bowing in the trees, dance us through the series and tying them all together.
