Mezzo Forte

$4,250

So much of Boulanger’s artwork is deeply rooted in her love of music, an art form that preceded her more long lasting relationship with fine art. As a child, Boulanger was surrounded by music. Her mother, a concert pianist, encouraged her daughter’s love of music and her decisions to study music and visual arts at the National Conservatory of Music and the Academy of Art in Santiago, Chile. In Boulanger’s etching, lithographs and paintings that feature music as a theme, she utilizes a bright color palette to convey the rich and vibrant complexities of melodies, harmonies and sonic texture. However, in her three dimensional representations—“Violoncellist,” “Mezzo Forte,” and “Concert A Trois”—close attention is paid to the relationship between the musician and their instrument. Each sculpture is a still life in motion, like members of a symphony poised to play. The bronze figures in this series are accented in rich blues, matte black, and polished golds and coppers and mounted on smooth, sand stone platforms—making them an impressive and beautiful centerpiece for both music and art enthusiasts alike
